  Notes	There were two individuals named “Bessie Leeman” living in Itasca County, Minnesota during roughly the same general time period. The 1900 U.S. Federal Census lists a Bessie Leeman, servant, age 18, born in June 1892 in Minnesota with her father and mother being born in Indiana. The second Bessie Leeman is listed as Bessie A. Leeman, with the ancestry as indicated in Connected Bloodlines. The Minnesota Death Index record listed below is for the first Bessie Leeman. This death record does appear within various genealogy family trees, incorrectly assuming that the death record is for Bessie A. Leeman. Incorrect death record: Minnesota Death Index: Bessie Mitchell D: 12/30/1940 DP: Cass NOTE: Per grandson Thomas Mitchell, in an email received on 29 Jul 2013, Bessie Mitchell did not die in 1940. Grandson Thomas stated that he was born in 1957 and that he remembered her when he was growing up in Bigfork, Minnesota. In a follow-up email, in response to questions posed by Gerald Lowell, Thomas Mitchell wrote: “Bessie died around the end of the 1960’s to early 1970’s. I think between 1969-1972, somewhere in the time frame. I believe she died in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. That was where her funeral was. She did have a daughter, Mary, who was my fathers step sister. She died in the late 1980’s. I think she lived in Washington state. I do not know of a George Kanz. I think I rememer hearing that Bessie and William were divorced. My dads other brother Marvin lived in California and the last I heard he was still alive. But that was several years ago.” The 1895 Minnesota Census for Itasca county lists Charles Leeman with wife Ottilla, daughter Bessie, daughter Abbie and son Arthur, all born in Minnesota.
