Obituary, Princeton Union Oct 30, 1919:
“Fred A. Lowell died at his home in Princeton, following a severe illness of several weeks, on Friday afternoon, October 26, his wife tenderly nursing him throughout his sickness.
Following a prayer at the home funeral services were conducted in the Methodist church on Sunday afternoon by Rev. James A. Geer. Mrs. Geer sang hymnal selections. The attendance was large and the floral tributes beautiful. The interment was at Oak Knoll and the funeral conducted under the auspices of the local Odd Fellows lodge, of which Mr. Lowell was a member. The Odd Fellows attended the obsequies in a body and the service at the grave was in accordance with the ritual of that order. Several members of the G. A. R., of which Mr. Lowell was also a member, were present.
Fred A. Lowell was born at Whitneyville, Maine, on August 30, 1845, where he spent the days of his youth. His parents later moved to East Machias, where he was married and six children were born of the union. His wife, however, died and several years later, on September 25, 1879 he married Miss Mary E. Ayers. Forty years ago he, with his wife and family, came to Minnesota and settled on a farm in Spencer Brook, where he lived until 18 years ago, when he moved to Princeton.
He is survived by his wife, one son, Herman Lowell of Princeton and one daughter, Mrs. Henry Sherman of Minneapolis. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Albion Miller of Minneapolis and Mrs. Melvina Belmont of Joplin, Mo; and four nieces, Mrs. Melvina Fulton of Anoka, Mrs. May Harrington of Elk River, Mrs. Lilia Dutten and Mrs. Alice Colhour of Minneapolis.
Fred A. Lowell was a public spirited man, who at all times had the interest of the community at heart. He was an honorable man of whom his neighbors spoke in respectful terms, and he was ever ready to assist anyone in distress. As husband and father he was kind and affectionate and a man who never deserted a friend.
He was a veteran of the civil war, a member of the Grand Army of the Republic and the Odd Fellows order, and had been a member of the Methodist church for many years.
Among those from out of town present at the obsequies were Mrs. Henry Sherman (a daughter of deceased), Mrs. K. Peak, Vane Sherman, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Merrill, Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Kellner, Fred Merrill, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Magson, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Magson, Mr. and Mrs Alvah Magson, Mrs. Alice Dutton, Anoka; and Mrs. Orville Harrington, Elk River.
We, who have been so sorely bereaved by the loss of our loved one, take this way of thanking all those whose sympathy and kindness helped use to trust and not be afraid.—Mrs. Fred A. Lowell, Herman Lowell, Mrs Henry Sherman, Fred Merrill.”
