Per Herlaug: “My father Oskar was a Captain in shipping. The last shipping company he worked in was called Johansen Stamsund. He died in Mai 1937, and I will tell you how we expired it. It was a terrible storm that day. We didn’t know he was going ashore that day. (He was going to deliver the account settlement). Later, we suddenly received a letter from the Shipping Company which said my father had run away with the money and the books. This was a great shock for my mother (Hildegunn) and me. He became wanted in the newsapapers, and lots of talking and speculations were going around among the people. Witnesses came forwards and told they have seen him several places. They also dived after him outside the key with no results. In the end of the month my mother had a dream where she could see where my father was in the sea. She contacted uncle Alf who helped her to find a diver. The diver meant it has been too long time since the accident and with the strong stream in the ocean, the chances to find him was small. But my mother insisted and the diver agreed to try. 30 Mai he found him. 40 meter outside the key, wrapped in sea grass, this was unbelievable. He had been blown of the key in the terrible storm. We were both happy and sad when we found him. At least we had a grave to visit. At this time I was 17 years old and my mother became a widow at 42 years old. My father became 50 years old.”
Grave stone spells name "Oscar."
