Miss Lillian Nelson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Nelson, 1316 East Seventh st., became the bride of Wesley Hofstad, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Hofstad, 300 South West ave., Saturday evening at 8 o’clock in a pretty candlelight ceremony in the East Side Lutheran church, Rev. H. Gregerson reading the ceremony.
The bride, escorted by her father, wore a gown of white satin and lace, with leg-o’mutton sleeves, and sweetheart neckline, the skirt falling into a long train. Her full veil was held in place with a crown of orange blossoms and she carried a bouquet of white gladioli.
Bride’s Sister Attendant
Miss Mildred Nelson, sister of the bride, was maid of honor, and wore blue net over satin. Her flowers were a bouquet of shaded pink gladioli. Miss Alice Nelson, sister of the bride, and Fern Hofstad, sister of the bride groom, were bridesmaids, and wore orchid and yellow gowns, and their colonial bouquets were of delphiniums.
Karen and Kathie, twin daughters of Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Hofstad, were flower girls, carrying lace baskets of petals. Billy Hofstad, their small brother, carried the ring on a satin pillow.
Marvin Plagman attended as best man, and Harold Nelson and Robert Hofland were ushers.
Mrs. L. J. Reistroffer sang “The Lord’s Prayer,” and “Because,” with Mrs. Elmer Garness at the organ, the latter also playing the nuptial march.
For her daughter’s wedding Mrs. Nelson wore flowered jersey with brown accessories, and Mrs. Hofstad chose an outfit of navy blue with white accessories.
Couple to Live Here
A reception was held in the church parlors following the ceremony, with pink and white carried out in appointments. The bridal table was centered with a large wedding cake, which was later cut and served by Mrs. Harry L. Cronk.
The young couple left for a short honeymoon, and after October 1 will be at home at 1010 West Fifteenth st. They are both graduates of Washington high school.
Out of town guests attending were Mrs. Fred Hughes of Gettysburg, Pa.; Pvt. and Mrs Arnold Hofland, Camp Gruber, Okla.; Mrs. Rae Johnson and daughter, Georgia Lee, Council Bluffs, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Johnson and daughter, Evelyn, and Mrs. Sigrun Sunde of Dell Rapids, and Mrs. Eilif Smevik and daughter, Sonja, Hollywood, Calif.”
Lil and Wes lived at 1010 West Fifteenth St., Sioux Falls, South Dakota, after their marriage.

Sioux Falls-Lillian Marie Hofstad, age 83, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2007, at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.
Lillian Marie Nelson, the daughter of Harold Dreyer and Gudren Marie (Nielson) Nelson, was born on September 6, 1924 in Sioux Falls, SD. Lillian attended schools in Sioux Falls, and graduated from Washington High School in 1942. She married Hans Wesley Hofstad on September 9, 1944 in Sioux Falls, SD.
Lillian was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls for many years. She enjoyed bowling, and was inducted into the South Dakota Bowling Hall of Fame in 1986, and won a silver medal in Bowling in the Senior Olympics. Lillian bowled for 43 years and was an exceptional athlete. Family was the most important part of her life. She was known as, “Grandma Lil, chocolate chip cookie lady on the hill.” She also enjoyed bowling, baking, sewing, camping, playing cards, stamping, and loved animals.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Wes, Sioux Falls, SD; son Lee (Lona) Hofstad, Jacksonville, FL; three daughters: Barbara Hofstad, Sioux Falls, SD, Sandy (Ken) Dunlap, Sioux Falls, SD, and Judy (Tim) Melham, Buffalo, MN; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Lillian was preceeded in death by her parents; two sisters: Mildred Wyman and Alice Lowell; and a brother, Harold G. Nelson.”
