“Sioux Falls- Harold Gilbert Nelson, 78, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2006. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 22 at Grace Lutheran Church with burial to follow at Hills of Rest Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM on Friday, July 21, 2006 at George Boom Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 6:30 to 7:30 PM.
Harold was born on August 20, 1927 to Harold D. and Gudrun Nelson. He served with the United States Navy Seabees during World War II and the Korean War.

“Harold Nelson Host at Evening Party
Harold Nelson, 1316 East Seventh st., entertained Monday evening after school hours as a compliment to David Storvick who is leaving with his father, Re. A. O. Storvick, to make their new home in Chicago.
Fifteen friends spent the hours in games for which David, Orland Johnson, Gordon Bjerke and Marvin Randall won honors. Mrs. H. G. [sic] Nelson, mother of the young host, and Mildred, his sister, served dainty refreshments at a late hour. David was remembered with a purse.”
Harold married Betty McRoden on May 9, 1953. He worked for Northern States Power Company (now XCEL Energy) for over 40 years. After his retirement he still worked for XCEL giving electrical safety demonstrations to 3rd graders and worked for security at the Sioux Falls Arena.
Harold is survived by his wife, Betty, Sioux Falls; 3 children, Gary (Carol) Coeur D’ Alene, ID, Brent (Dawn) Nelson, Rapid City, SD, and Sherilyn (Scott) Carmody, Sioux Falls; 7 grandchildren; and one sister, Lillian (Wesley) Hofstad, Sioux Falls.”

Harold Gilbert Nelson, son of Harold D. and Gudrun Nelson, was born on August 20, 1927 in Sioux Falls, SD. He attended Whittier Elementary School and Washington High School. After high school he served with the United States Navy Seabees during World War II and the Korean War.
Harold was united in marriage with Betty McRoden on May 9, 1953 in Sioux Falls. He worked for Northern States Power Company (now XCEL Energy) for over 40 years. After retirement, he still worked for XCEL Energy giving electrical safety demonstrations to 3rd graders and worked security at the Sioux Falls Arena.
Harold was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and was an usher for Sunday services. He was also a member of the El Riad Shrine, the American Legion, a past 1st chief of the Sioux Falls Police Reserve, past president of Northern States Power Company Credit Union and past president of I.E.S. Harold also coached youth softball andd served as a scout leader on several committees with the Boy Scouts.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Betty Nelson, Sioux Falls, SD; three children, Gary (Carol) Nelson, Coeur d’Alene, ID, Brent (Dawn) Nelson, Rapid City, SD, and Sherilyn (Scott) Carmody, Sioux Falls, SD; seven grandchildren, Blake, Larissa, and Valerie Nelson, Ryan and John Nelson, Erica and Brendan Carmody; and one sister, Lillian (Wesley) Hofstad, Sioux Falls, SD.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Mildred Wyman and Alice Lowell.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family for lunch and fellowship at George Boom Funeral Home following the committal service.”
