- In 1900 census, Wilke is living with his grandfather, Joachim Volsch. Spelling of name may be “Willie Munskey.”
From The Pioneer Register, Salem, SD, July 11, 1912:
“Wm. Munzke Jr.:
“Wm. Munzke Jr. the son of Wm. Munzke Sr. who lives 5 1/2 miles northwest of Salem died in the hospital at Sioux Falls, Monday, July 8th.
“The lad was taken to the hospital two weeks ago and was operated on, for appendicitis, June 28. After the operation while it was realized that he was a very sick boy his condition gave encouragement for relatives and attendants to believe that he would recover. Fatal developments began a few days before his death when it became known that he could not rally. His father who remained with him brought the body to Salem Wednesday and the funeral was held in the Presbyterian church this afternoon at 1 o’clock. Rev. Gottlob Bessler, pastor of the Lutheran church at Spencer conducted the services. Interment was made in Wildwood cemetery.
“The boy’s mother preceded him to the “great beyond” a few years ago. Had he lived until October 25th, he would have been 14 years old. The relatives have the sympathy of all in their affliction.”
Minnehaha county Death Record lists name as William Munzke, Jr., death July 8, 1912, 13 yrs, 8 mos., 13 days at time of death. Death from peritonitis, Salem, McCook County. Mother: Minnie Volsch, father: William Munzke.
